The menu items will be available until after the fast-breaking feast on September 28. Menu items will range in price from $8 to $20 and will include items such as: Chef McNally’s signature “Feather-Light” Matzoh Ball Soup, Braised Short Ribs served kugel-style over spaghetti, Pate, served in the style of southwestern France, and much more. London Grill will also offer these holiday dishes for take-out, so that guests may enjoy their meals in the comfort of their own homes-without having to prepare the food themselves. So, make your reservations today, because London Grill will be the perfect place to celebrate the high holy days with your family.
Beginning Friday, September 18 at sunset, beloved Fairmount restaurant London Grill (2301 Fairmount Avenue, 215-978-4545) will offer festive dishes created by Chef Michael McNally to enjoy during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The “Newish-Jewish” treats, both traditional and innovative, will be offered throughout the length of Rosh Hashanah, until September 27, and after sunset as a fast-breaking feast on Yom Kippur, September 28.
“Observing the high holy days with a great meal is a tradition as old as Jewish culture,” says Chef McNally. “But in this day and age, people don’t always have the time to spend days preparing traditional items like brisket and honey cake. So we invite them to join us and experience our ‘Newish-Jewish’ interpretations of classic fare, prepared with the finest local, seasonal ingredients available during this annual harvest holiday.”
Served throughout London Grill’s bar, main dining rooms and private dining room, London Grill’s Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur specials include: Chef McNally’s signature “Feather-Light” Matzoh Ball Soup; Braised Short Ribs served kugel-style over spaghetti; classic Rugalach sticky buns; and a glamorous chicken liver substitute: Pate, served in the style of southwestern France. Menu items range in price from $8 to $20.
“I’ll be scouting local farmers’ markets for the freshest ingredients to prepare in these special dishes,” says McNally. “Each of these items includes traditional components of the holiday, such as Swiss chard and leeks to ward off evil; round carrots for a balanced, or ‘rounded,’ life; chickpeas, lentils and black-eyed peas for abundance and pomegranate seeds for good deeds.”
London Grill will also offer these holiday dishes for take-out, so that guests can enjoy their meals in the comfort of their homes – without having to prepare the food themselves. The holiday menu will be offered as aprix-fixe dinner, $35 for three courses, on Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19. There will be an a la carte luncheon on Saturday, September 19; special dishes will be offered all week long as well as “break the fast” specials on Monday, September 28.
Striking a perfect balance between a cozy neighborhood pub and fine dining restaurant, London Grill has remained one of the city’s most popular destinations since 1991. Located in the historic Fairmount neighborhood, a short walk form the Franklin Institute and its neighboring museums, the beloved restaurant and bar has gained a reputation for its creative menus, which draw on American comfort favorites and cuisines from around the world.
London Grill has been featured in Bon Appetit, CNN, US Airways Magazine and Philadelphia magazine. In his review, Philadelphia Inquirer critic Craig LaBan wrote, “You can’t get this kind of cooking in most neighborhood restaurants, but the London Grill pulls it off with a blend of laid-back ambience and quality food that sits just right.” For more information or reservations, please call (215) 978-4545 or visit their website at www.londongrill.com.
