Welcome to Longwood Gardens. . . .Located just outside of Philadelphia in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, Longwood is one of the worlds great gardens, renowned for its exquisite flowers, majestic trees, spectacular fountains, great dining, and dazzling events.

These beautiful gardens are the result of the vision, determination, and stewardship of Pierre Samuel du Pont. In 1906, Mr. du Pont purchased the property to save an historic arboretum slated to cut for timber, and then began creating a garden like no other.

Today, Longwood encompasses more than 1,000 acres and offers guests a memorable experience regardless of the season. The magnificent 4-acre Conservatory, shelters more than 5,500 types of plants including colorful orchids, fragrant roses, towering palms and other unique plants from around the world. The Conservatory also houses Longwoods popular changing seasonal displays, including the Orchid Extravaganza January through March, the one-of-a-kind Chrysanthemum Festival, mid October through November, and the incomparable Christmas Display each holiday season.

Outside, Longwood is home to more fountains than any other garden in the United States. Throughout the summer, illuminated fountain shows delight visitors, while on five special evenings, amazing fireworks and fountains shows light the night sky. In addition, dont miss the whimsical Topiary Garden, the stately Flower Garden Walk, the peaceful meadow, and historic Peirces Woods. Longwoods changing outdoor landscape also features 230,000 colorful tulips in the spring, fabulous foliage in the autumn, and more than 500,000 outdoor lights during our spectacular Christmas display.

The gardens are the perfect place for family fun. The Indoor Childrens Garden invites young visitors to discover a horticultural wonderland, while behind-the-scenes tours, concerts and other special events complete your experience.
