StreetTalkin – Going to Extremes – Presentation by Todd Carmichael at Painted Bride Art Center in Philadelphia, Friday, November 6

October 26, 2009

extremesOn Friday, November 6th, get out to The Painted Bride Art Center in Philadelphia for a presentation by high-risk adventurer, Todd Carmichael.  Carmichael became the first American to go solo and unsupported to the South Pole, and he also set the world record for the fastest journey to Antarctica.  This will be sure to be a fascinating presentation so reserve your tickets today because they will go quickly!

Less than 11 months after setting the world record for a solo trek across Antarctica, Todd Carmichael will attempt the first man-haul traverse of Death Valley National Park. After he walks 250 miles through the hottest, driest place in North America — alone and without assistance, re-supplies, supplemental water or the aid of machine or animal — he comes to the First Person Festival to talk about his daring quests. And after the Festival? A trek across the Namib desert. Don’t miss this exciting conversation with one of the most intrepid adventurers in the world today.

Todd Carmichael, a 45-year-old entrepreneur (founder of La Colombe Coffee) and high-risk adventurer is also a passionate crusader for social and ecological causes. He has a decade-long history of undertaking self-supported treks into challenging environments. To be true to his unwavering ethic of low-carbon, self-sufficient travel, Carmichael takes only what he can carry on his back, or, in the case of Antarctica, pull on a sled.
