ZINC BISTRO AND WINE BAR OFFERS
CEZANNE-INSPIRED MENU TO CELEBRATE
UPCOMING PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART EXHIBIT
To celebrate the upcoming “Cezanne and Beyond” exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, acclaimed bistro and wine bar Zinc (246 South 11th Street, 215-351-9901) will offer a special, $30 prix-fixe menu of Provence-inspired dishes. Chef-owner Olivier Desaintmartin has crafted this special commemorative meal to celebrate the influential works of one of France’s most revered painters. Zinc’s special Cezanne prix-fixe menu will be available from February 26 until May 17, to coincide with the opening and closing dates of the comprehensive exhibition of the late artist’s works. Reservations are recommended.
“Paul Cezanne’s paintings have a luxuriously tactile quality; they are delicious to behold, much like a great meal,” says Desaintmartin. “Our Cezanne menu pays homage to his roots in Provence with classic dishes, such as ratatouille, and innovative touches, such as our ‘palette au chocolat’ dessert, a selection of chocolate mousses served on a painter’s palette.”
First-course menu items include: Soupe au Pistou, Provencal minestrone soup with basil and Scupions a la Provencale, baby octopus with garlic, Pernod and tomato. Entrée selections include: Saumon Grille, grilled salmon with ratatouille and saffron sauce and Daube Provencale, stewed, farm-raised chicken with olives and basil. Dessert options include: Sa Palette au Chocolat, literally “his palette of chocolate” with glazed cookies and La Pomme de Cezanne a la Lavande, baked apple in pastry with lavender caramel.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is among the world’s most famous, comprehensive collections of fine art, sculpture and textiles. For “Cezanne and Beyond,” curators drew inspiration from the watershed 1907 Cezanne retrospective at the Salon d’Automne and compiled more than 40 paintings and 20 drawings by the late artist from both the museum’s own extensive collection and generous donations from other institutions. Also on display will be works from other artists who cite Cezanne as a major inspiration, including Jasper Johns, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. Tickets are required, and are available at www.philamuseum.org or at the museum. For more information, please visit them online or call (215) 763-8100.
Zinc opened in September 2007 to high praise and was named among the “Best Restaurants of 2007” by Philadelphia magazine. Citypaper called Zinc “a winning addition to Center City’s blossoming dining scene.” With a carefully crafted list of primarily French wines, Chef Desaintmartin’s delectable French cuisine fits perfectly in this 40-seat storefront bistro with a welcoming, gracious atmosphere. Centered around an authentic Parisian zinc bar, imported by Desaintmartin and dated back to 1919, Zinc is a romantic destination for any occasion.
Zinc serves dinner Tuesday through Sunday from 5 until 11 p.m. Sunday Brunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Daily Happy Hour from 4 until 5:30 p.m. with $4 wines by the glass. Zinc is available for private parties of 25 to 40 people during lunch.
